Tell me something about God... What is the most precious object your hands have touched? Please share a word of wisdom that will enrich someone's life. These pages record the responses of persons I met on the road of life. They responded to three questions about Everyone relates to the Divine or the Sacred. Some people believe there is a God while others know God does not exist. For some God is personal or well known through various sources, for others God is hidden or remote. The distance between belief and unbelief might be too small to comprehend. Yet, God always seems to be on hand and at hand, there to call upon, to blame or to reject; in reach or untouchable. Here you'll find hands. A hand always belongs. It gives and takes; it can reach out or be withdrawn. A hand holds on when letting go will be wisdom. At other times it lets go, or even drops persons and things. A hand can move or be static. It caresses and shows its palm in open vulnerability or strikes out in helpless anger and becomes a fist. Sometimes the hand is cut, burnt, stung, pinched, or it loses a member. A hand can be warm or cold, smooth or calloused. We walk hand in hand with someone else. With our hands we "see" and create places where we root ourselves. Our hands also highlight our differences: it is "your" hand and "my" hand... In the end, every hand relates to God, from whose hand we live. The road of life is best lived as a traveler. Travelers share experiences, learn from others, build community, and give up privilege. They accept delays or a change in plans and resist the urge of becoming a tourist and moving from one, exotic, all-inclusive destination to the next. I strive to be a traveler.
